India achieved an all new high in chess on Monday morning as Gukesh D became the youngest player in the world to win Candidates tournament. Gukesh, at the age of 17, made history while also booking a spot in the final of the world championship. As entire India celebrates Gukesh’s triumph, industrialist Anand Mahindra gave an exceptional ‘Artificial Intelligence’ praise for the teenage chess prodigy. In his post on social media, Mr. Mahindra also highlighted how the renowned Magnus Carlsen got his prediction wrong when it comes to the Candidates tournament.

Sharing Carlsen’s pre-tournament, prediction, Mr. Mahindra highlighted that the Norwegian expected Gukesh to do poorly in the tournament but the Indian went on to win the competition. While admitting that Carlsen’s prediction might have been right before the tournament began, it’s how Gukesh continued to learn as he progressed, that made him a winner.

Anand Mahindra’s post on X (formerly Twitter). Read: “This was Magnus Carlsen’s prediction for the #candidates2024

“Perhaps Magnus wasn’t grossly wrong-at the point when he made the prediction. What this shows, I think, is the incredible speed at which Gukesh is evolving. By the time he plays Ding Liren, he will have evolved further… There’s nothing artificial about Gukesh’s intelligence, but AI is essentially a learning machine and so is Gukesh! Keep learning-no matter what your age.

“There could be no other source of #MondayMotivation than @DGukesh”.

With this triumph, Gukesh will challenge the reigning World Champion Ding Liren of China in the World Chess Championship match. He is now the second Indian after Vishwanathan Anand to fight for the Classical World Championship title.

Anand won the title five times between 2000 and 2013 when he lost to challenger Magnus Carlsen, who has currently abdicated his crown and refused to participate in the Candidates 2024.

The World Championship Match consists of 14 games. The player who scores 7.5 points or more wins the match, and no further games are played. If the score after 14 games is equal, the winner is decided on a tiebreak.
